Two Words. One Pronunciation.
As you recall, I am listening to all of the Harry Potter books on my newly acquired MP3 player. It's been really fun to jump back into the world of Harry Potter and to be awed by J.K. Rowling's storytelling ability. After having read all of the books and knowing what it is coming in further books, the foreshadowing and attention to detail she provides (aside from the flaw in book 4) is uncanny.
As I read the books I was always so excited to find out what was to occur next that I didn't always pay that much attention to word choice and delivery. I laugh out loud much more often as I listen. I am taken aback by some of the words used to describe and deliver. I am really enjoying this method of experiencing the wonder of joy of Harry Potter.
I just finished listening to
Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix (book 5). Doing so
reminded me of a time back at our former house. Joel was
replacing all of the windows in our house and while doing so he was
listening to the Harry Potter series. When he got to book 5,
he started to talk about one of the elves who plays a prominent role
in the book. We had a conversation that went something
like this: Joel: "That creature sure is crazy." Elena: "What creature?" Joel: "The elf in the book." Elena: "It's not a creature, it's an elf." Joel: "But that is his name." Elena: "No, it's not." Joel: "Well what do you call the elf at 12 Grimmauld Place?" Elena: "Kree... Oh. Creature as in Kreecher." Joel: "FACE!" (more or less) Elena: "I guess I should say the words out loud more often."
