Highway to ellen
My stomach has been twisting and turning with excitement and hope that my friends and I win the "highway to ellen" contest. This week appears to be busy at the ellen show.
Today, they are going to play the now famous ellen version of a Japanese marshmallow game. This is true comedy gold. The winners of today's attempt are headed to Japan! Here is a video of the Japanese version of the game:
I am waiting for the announcement about who won the contest. In my (completely unbiased) opinion, we should win! I was going to wait to share this with you, but I can't decide what I am waiting for anymore so I will share with you the entry letter I sent to ellen and her staff.
Ready?
DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I AM? I’M EEE LLLL EEEEE NNNNNN AAAAAAA !!!!
Please imagine somebody leaning outside a vehicle going 60 mph on the freeway screaming that to the car driving just as fast (if not faster) in the next lane. That would be me. And that would really be something that occurred on a road trip taken with my college friends.
That time in our lives was a good 10 years ago. We have now “grown-up” in the sense that some of us have gotten married or have jobs or have kids or have advanced degrees or pay mortgages/ rents and live far, far away from one another. We no longer get to spend time together being silly, watching ellen, and taking spontaneous trips. Don’t get us wrong, we try to do all of these things (especially the daily dose of ellen)—we just don’t get to do them together. Thus, a road trip to see YOU would be perfect for so many reasons:
1) We are really good at throwing ellen parties as it was a weekly ritual in our college dorm life. 2) Road trip mixes! We need some time to practice learning and singing the lyrics to all of our new favorite songs. 3) We have been known to re-enact a certain 1998 Oscar winning film in a hotel swimming pool. It is Oscar season... 4) Our road trip journal has 50 blank pages that really need to be filled in. 5) Help make up for our '05 trip to the Ellen DeGeneres Show which included standing in pouring rain for two hours, a trip to an urgent care center, and FIVE trips to various pharmacies. (The show was awesome though!!!) 6) Two words: car dancing. 7) Sunny California is the place we ought to be—we’re tired of the Midwestern cold and snow and the rain of the Pacific Northwest. 8) Meeting ellen is on my life list. (See?) 9) It would be a great way to celebrate our 10-year college reunion (representing Carleton College c/o 1998). 10) WE LOVE ELLEN!!!
I keep waiting for the perfect ellen contest to enter and aside from “ellen’s biggest fan” this is IT! We would be awesome road trippers and would provide you with great entertainment so that you could, in turn, provide us with great entertainment upon our arrival. I mean, really, it’s a win-win for all involved.
Choose us! You will not regret it!
The people who would be accompanying me on this trip are college friends: Lara, Sarah, and Shyeilla. We all met our first year (living in good old 4th and 6th Watson -- Hall 'o Sloth, anyone?), and had some great adventures together during and after that time.
Lara has been writing about us over on her blog too. Go take a peak.
Also, we have discovered some of our competition. I'll let you do your own searching, but if you google "highway to ellen," you might find some interesting stuff out there.
Wish us luck! And most importantly... watch ellen! |
