Picture Pages Update
I thought I'd share with you my photo "progression" or lack of it. I have been taking fewer pictures as of late in an attempt to keep myself focused on composing good shots, using natural light, and (most importantly) using the manual modes (i.e.-- choosing the correct settings.
To give you an idea of why this is so important to me, allow me to do a little compare and contrast. I took these two pictures of Joel within seconds of one another. One in the (awful) auto setting with the very harsh flash and the other in the (scary and difficult) manual setting without the flash. (Ignore the horrible composition-- I was literally just playing with the camera and didn't bother to move that distracting chair from the background.)
As you can see, Joel looks pale and bright.
Joel has gained his natural skin tone (he is tan due to the ski season) and the overall depth of color is so much warmer.
It is difficult to take photos of kids in manual mode due to their constant movement. In the depths of winter this task is even more challenging because we are indoors most of the time. (Obviously, the light outside is preferable to the cave like lighting within the confines of a home.)
I did recently take a few pictures. There is one that I am quite proud of and the others... well... blah. But it all takes time, right? Here you can see what I have been up to.
Xaden was less than thrilled to be out while it was snowing so I only got a couple of quick snaps of him. You can see the look of despair across his face.
"It's cold out here. Let's go in!"
This is one of Xaden's most prized possession. He refused mittens so that he could continue to clutch this car. (Don't worry, he was only outside for 2 minutes.)
This is using the natural light from a window (the one you can see in her eyes). I can't decide if she's really that pale.
The following photo is the one that I am most proud of. The settings seem perfect. I don't see much glare in her glasses and that smile is about the cutest thing in the world. (I know you agree.)
Adiana taken in the natural light using manual settings.
So that is where I am in the photography world. I have decided there is a lens I must have in order to give me some wiggle room in terms of getting the correct exposure. I have come to realize how limited I am with the lens that came with the camera. It has been a good learning tool, but I am ready for the next step. I am working toward having enough funds for such a purchase. Wish me luck!
(BTW, Thanks again to Tisha and Shane for sharing their notes from the class they took with me.) |
